Want to see what MOMS Club is all about? You can join us at our September Monthly Membership Meeting on Wednesday, Sept 7 at 9:30 a.m. at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 5701 Raymond Rd. (Just a note, we don't have an affiliation with the church.) Meet other moms and kids who are local to southwest Madison and Verona! We will also have Sue from Moove and Groove ( http://www.mooveandgroove.com/ ) lead us in a sample parent/child class. Hope you can join us for the fun!

For some of us, our alarms chirped earlier this morning. It was darker outside. Colder. We gathered backpacks and lunchboxes and headed out the door. After seeing our older ones off to the first day of school we headed over to a Boohoo Woohoo Breakfast. Our babies and preschoolers wore party hats and played. We celebrated and grieved and laughed over donuts and coffee. We don't know what this new school year will bring, but we do know that no matter what we've got each other.

We held July's membership meeting at Verona Fitness Studio where the talented Kim Krueger, founder of Lioness Fitness , led us in an interval strength training class. Our current president started taking her classes with Lioness Fitness in the spring, and had such a positive experience she felt the need to share. Lioness Fitness classes are unique because the owner encourages moms to bring their kids along to class. Some of the kids work out with mom, some play with toys, and the littlest ones hang out in the yoga mat 'playpen' or bouncer. The class passes so quickly because the kids provide a constant distraction, but not such a distraction that you don't get in a great workout. Some of our MOMS Club members commented on how surprised they were when they felt sore the next day since it did not feel like they worked out that hard. A win-win: a workout that feels easy and still leaves you feeling it the next day. Want to join us for our next MOMS Club adventure? D

Off-the-cuff morning adventures are my jam. The kind where I toss a few water bottles, a couple juice boxes, some snacks, and sunscreen into the old backpack and we're off. First stop. Coffee and baked bits. Today we grabbed caffeine and cinnamon buns at Crossroads Coffeehouse in Cross Plains. It was the perfect early morning stop on the way to the Table Bluff Segment of the Ice Age National Scenic Trail (Ice Age Trail) in Black Earth. The Table Bluff Segment is accessible, kid-friendly and very pretty. A winding trail. Gobs of wild raspberries. Oodles of wildflowers: prairie blazingstar, goldenrod, arrowhead, coneflowers, bishop's lace. Hillocks. Woods. Singing birds. Bleating goats. The trail is 2.5 miles straight, making a five mile out-n-back. The Ice Age Trail as a whole is a 1,200 mile footpath entirely in Wisconsin and is one of eleven national scenic trails. The Table Bluff Segment is straight through Cross Plains on Highway 14. Turn right on K

Summertime in Madison is resplendent. Where else can you tuck in a morning hike wearing long sleeves on the first day of July? If you're looking for a kid-friendly trek that's not too long, not too short, rambling, green, tranquil, and scenic, head over to Pope Farm Conservancy . Today the clouds almost touched the fields! Pope Farm became a conservancy in 2000 when the Art Pope family reached an agreement with the Town of Middleton to protect the 105 acre park from development. The grounds sit atop three recessional moraines (small ridges left after a glacier's retreat) where three watersheds come together. The heights offer panoramic views; the gullies wild prairie plants. The eight miles of walking trails and picnic areas are woven among seven different crops, shaded woods, windswept grasses, and wildflowers. This week several of our MOMS Club members took a tour of Babcock Dairy Hall and the Dairy Cattle Center at UW-Madison. Everyone loved meeting "Betsy" the cow! It's hard to say if they enjoyed eating Babcock ice cream or seeing all the cattle more. Fun fact: When we stepped on the giant scale in the dairy barn, we learned that our combined weight was still only 2/3's of that of the largest cow in the barn.
